| One team looking to repeat history, one team looking to prevent a repeat. The last time the Sisler Spartans lost to a Manitoba-based opponent, and the only time in the past three years, the Vincent Massey Trojans were the opposition. The game: the 2014 MHSAA AAAA Championship Final, a 70-53 Trojan win. One notable omission from the game - Kyanna Giles, as she was at a Canadian National Team camp. This year, it seems like nothing can stop the Spartans. Averaging +33.6 points per game against all opponents, Sisler has been held under 60 points only twice, while having a total of eight 90+ point games, two of which broke the century mark. In two Provincial Championship games this season, Kyanna and Kyia Giles, along with fellow guard Raizel Guinto, have combined for a whopping 135 points on 54-for-114 (47.4%) shooting, along with 15-for-21 from the free-throw line. They also have six players who have brought down eight or more rebounds of the team's 75 player rebounds. A tough team to beat, to be sure, however if there's one team that will do it, it has to be the Trojans. The Vincent Massey Trojans may have six losses listed this season, but two came on a tough weekend battle in December, and one came against a game Miles Macdonell squad that finished the season ranked right behind the Trojans. The other three come from the Spartans, and it's a sure bet that the Trojans are looking for revenge. Averaging +17.5 points per game, the Trojans have a stingy defense, with Keylyn Filewich and Niyah Becker combining for 11 blocks, 14 steals and 32 defensive rebounds in their first two Provincial Championship games. 19 of the team's 23 wins have come by at least 12 points, and they look to pick up a 24th win Monday night. Through two games, Filewich and Becker have also combined for 81 points on 37-for-73 (50.7%) shooting, along with 56 rebounds - 24 on offense. Four other players (Taylor Kleysen, Victoria Tachinski, Julia Schatkowsky and Jessica Hartog) have also put up double-digits in points and combine for another 36 of the team's 111 player rebounds. The stat leaders are littered with players from both teams, and it's nothing but fitting that two conference rivals meet each other for the second time in three years on the big stage in the Provincial Championship final. |
